As the Northern film industry continues to grow, so do the opportunities and demand for local actors.
Working actors understand the value and importance of training. It pays to stay sharp, in-the-know and continuously working on your craft.
This workshop covers scene study, audition technique, business and more. For many actors, auditioning is one of the most dreaded aspects of the job. However, like anything else, practice makes perfect. If you find yourself struggling with the audition process and want to learn how to book the room as an actor, this is the class for you. With insight and training, the audition process will become less daunting and even enjoyable. This is the actor's opportunity to showcase their talent and most importantly, enjoy themselves! This class is an intensive on-camera training course ideal for actors with theatrical/ﬁlm background or for actors who have a serious interest in ﬁlm & television performance.
- Breaking down the scene: character development + preparation.
- Build your confidence level so you are better equipped to go in and
“own” the audition space.
- Learn how to “bridge the gap” between yourself and the reader
in order to create intimacy and intensity.
- Explore the importance of “eye-line” for clear storytelling in the audition.
- Learn about self-taping and what directors are looking for.
- On camera audition technique,understanding what is required from
you in the room, working the call back, creating the illusion of spontaneity
in scripted work, deﬁning and structuring the camera frame, deﬁning choices
in scripted material, the business of auditioning, understanding the your
audience, do's and don'ts of auditioning, in-the-room etiquette, on camera

Melissa A. Smith is owner of Melissa A. Smith Casting Inc. and Opal Entertainment Inc., a production company specializing in development, financing and production of feature films and television projects. Melissa has helped cast a number of successful feature films, movies of the week and television series, both in Canada and the USA. Melissa has worked on projects for NBC UNIVERSAL, SHOWCASE, SONY PICTURES, CTV, HALLMARK and THE SYFY NETWORK. Recent Northern credits include: "Indian Horse", "Spare Parts", "Away From Everywhere", "The Rest of Us", "Nowhere", "Bad Blood", "Cardinal", "Letterkenny", "What Would Sal Do?", and more.
