COURSE DESCRIPTION :
Auditions. For many actors, auditioning is one of the most dreaded aspects of the job. However, like anything else, practice makes perfect. If you find yourself struggling with the audition process and want to learn how to book the room as an actor, this is the class for you. With insight and training, the audition process will become less daunting and even enjoyable. This is the actor's opportunity to showcase their talent and most importantly have a good time! This Audition Technique class is an intensive on camera training course ideal for actors with theatrical/ﬁlm background or for actors who have a serious interest in ﬁlm & television performance. During this six week class, actors will have the opporunity to work with Casting Director Melissa A. Smith and our studio instructors to develop their audition technique, perfect on-camera presence and work on scripted material.
CLASS FOCUS :
First two weeks: Individual on camera audition development and technique, Actors will have the opporunity to run various 'mock' auditions, followed by a mid-term evaluation. Mid two weeks: On camera partnered scene study and chemistry reads, outside evaluation and industry consultation. Last two weeks: Individual callbacks and testing for network.
CLASS CONTENT :
On camera audition technique, character development + preparation, understanding what is required from you in the room, working the call back, creating the illusion of spontaneity in scripted work, deﬁning and structuring the camera frame, deﬁning choices in scripted material, the business of auditioning, understanding the your audience, deﬁning industry standards, do's and don'ts of auditioning, in-the-room etiquette, on camera tool acquisition, establishing familiarity, comfort and conﬁdence in an audition room.
All classes at MAS are documented on SD CARD for in class and home review.
Headshot and resume are preferred.
NOTE : Melissa A. Smith & MAS instructors are actively working in the ﬁlm & television industry. Should a conﬂict arise preventing them from teaching a class, we will bring in a suitable replacement or will reschedule the class for a later date.
