COURSE DESCRIPTION :

INTRO TO ON-CAMERA is a BEGINNER on-camera training class.

Have you heard about films shooting in Sudbury and want to get involved? 

This class was created for individuals with absolutely NO prior experience. The program is geared to help determine if acting is right for you.

 

During this six week class, participants will have the opportunity to work with Casting Director Melissa A. Smith and our studio instructors to develop their technique, work on their on-camera presence and dive into relevant scripted material. You will discover what it takes to become a working actor and acquire unique tools to help get you there.

 

CLASS OVERVIEW :

First two weeks: A mix of theory, industry insider tips and on-camera introduction. The last two weeks will focus on individual camera development and technique. Actors will have the opporunity to run various 'mock' auditions both individual and partnered, followed by evaluation. 

 

CLASS CONTENT :

Introduction to the industry, on-camera audition technique, character development + preparation, understanding what is required from you in the audition room, working the call back with a director/producer present, the moment, defining choices in scripted material, the business of acting, understanding the your audience, defining industry standards, do's and don'ts, etiquette, establishing familiarity, comfort and confidence in an audition scenario.

 

All classes at MAS are documented on SD CARD for in class and home review.

 

REQUIREMENTS :

There are no mandatory requirements for this class. Headshot and resume are preferred.

 

NOTE : Melissa A. Smith & MAS instructors are actively working in the film & television industry. Should a conflict arise preventing them from teaching a class, we will bring in a suitable replacement or will reschedule the class for a later date.

Melissa A. Smith is a Toronto based Casting Director and owner of Melissa A. Smith Casting Inc., a casting company specializing in film & television and Opal Entertainment Inc., a production company based in Northern Ontario. Melissa has been involved in the casting of a number of successful feature films, movies of the week and television series. Melissa was named Playback Magazine's 5 To Watch in 2016 and won the 40 Under 40 Award in 2017. Melissa is a proud member of the Casting Directors Society of Canada.

Originally from Sudbury, ON, Melissa received her start in the industry as an actor at the age of fourteen. She secured representation with one of Canada’s top talent agencies in Toronto, and had the opportunity to work on a number of films. In 2010, Melissa found herself on the other side of the camera, working at a busy casting company in Toronto. Melissa trained with two of Canada's top Casting Directors before branching off and opening Melissa A. Smith Casting. At present, Melissa is working on a number of feature films with Canadian, American and U.K. producers.
